Safe Routes to Schools Survey
The Westowne PTA is currently in the process of applying for a federal Safe Routes to Schools grant in order to secure funds for improving the pedestrian and biking infrastructure in our neighborhoods. Families, please take 5 minutes to complete an anonymous parent survey that will help us with the grant proposal.
This is a great opportunity for our area to finally have connected sidewalks, appropriate school zone signage, and crosswalks that are safer for everyone. The survey will also be distributed in paper format through your children's folders this week. Please fill out the online survey OR the paper survey; we only need one per family.Thank you!
Join us on the second Tuesday of each month, October through June, at 7:00 for our monthly meeting. Learn what the PTA does for our school, as well as ways you can partner with fellow members to support teachers, staff, students, and families. For those of you who have other commitments, strive to keep you informed and involved with our website, email newsletter, and on Facebook.
Welcome, Principal Palmer
Please join with the PTA in welcoming Principal J. Scott Palmer to Westowne! With a long history working within BCPS, his most recent position was Principal of Joppa View Elementary, a BCPS Lighthouse School.
Become a Member
Now's the time to join the PTA or renew your annual membership.
Your $6 dues allow our school to have a PTA and pay for your local and national PTA memberships. Our PTA doesn't keep the small amount that's left over. Dues cover our organization's insurance and required trainings.
Your membership means you believe that the PTA helps Westowne be the best it can be. It means you want to be informed about your school and your school community. As a member, you support the PTA however much your life and schedule allows.
Your PTA was honored with a Maryland PTA award last school year for increasing our membership by over 50%. Help make this year even better. We encourage all adults in your household to join, as well as faculty, staff, grandparents, and community members. Send in the membership form with your $6. Thank you!
Citizen's Advisory Committees
Both the Citizen's Advisory Committee for Gifted and Talented Education (GT CAC) and the Special Education Citizen's Advisory Committee (SECAC) offer parents an opportunity to voice their ideas and concerns about these programs in BCPS schools. Westowne Elementary PTA has representatives for both committees. They advocate for our needs and help us stay informed. We add meeting dates to our calendar as they become available.
