Walk & Bike to School Day
Celebrate Earth Day by walking or biking to school tomorrow, Friday, April 22nd. Any student who participates can enter for a chance to win a prize donated by The Hub/C'Ville Bikes. If you live a little too far but want to get in on the fun, meet us at the corner of Whitfield & Northdale Roads in Academy Heights at 8:45 tomorrow morning to walk or bike to school.
Stream Clean Up
Continue your Earth Day celebrations by beautifying our neighborhood and waterways at Herbert Run Stream this weekend, Saturday, April 23rd from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Thanks to Patapsco Heritage Greenway and the Ingleside Neighborhood Association for partnering with the PTA to organize this event. Pre-registration online is encouraged but not required. Meet up is at the intersection of Lodge Road and Longview Drive. Come wearing boots and gloves.
All trash collected will count toward the Clean Green 15 environmental grant competition!
PTA Meeting Recap
To keep you in the loop regardless of whether you are free on Tuesday evenings, we share the notes from the monthly business meetings. Check out our blog for the April meeting overview for all the details.
Box Tops for Education
Thanks to so many families for collecting Box Tops for Westowne. So far, the top three contributing classrooms are Ms. Jang, Ms. McIntosh, and Ms. Cvengros. The class that collects the most will win an end of year party.
Also congratulations to Avie from Ms. Kim's class. She won the Crayola art kit for the design your own collection sheet raffle.
Pajama & Autism Awareness Day
Students and teachers may wear their pajamas to school on Wednesday, April 27th. This month, participants can chose to Light It Up Blue and wear blue for Autism Awareness, too. Everyone can get in on the fun. Those who chose to may send in a monetary donation to support entertaining and educational events like assemblies and Field Day. The class with the most donations wins an end of year pizza party.
Teacher Appreciation Week
Teacher Appreciation Week is May 2nd through 6th. Please join us in showering our teachers and staff with gratitude.
There are several ways families can participate:
- Donate gift cards. We are collecting gift cards now through Monday, May 2nd. These gift cards will be raffled to the teachers with the goal of giving each faculty member a gift. Ideas include Target, Amazon, coffee shops, and restaurants valued at around $10. Gift cards may be sent in your child's folder in an envelope marked with "PTA."
- Mark your calendars and put on your aprons! With your help on Tuesday, May 3rd, we will fill the teachers’ lounge with your favorite snacks and drinks. And on Thursday, May 5th, we will fill the lounge with homemade sweets. Donations may be dropped off those mornings by 10:00 AM.
- Volunteer! We need a few extra hands. Email us or find the Westowne Elementary Community Forum on Facebook.
