January PTA Meeting Notes

President’s Report: China Williams

1. Voted to increase Assembly budget to $3600
2. Voted to increase Printing budget to $175
3. Voted to decrease Posting & Shipping budget to $175
4. New board positions opening up for next school year
   1. Two year term begins in July
   2. Anyone can nominate self
   3. Self-nominations: Justine Stull (President), Sarah Fondelier (Vice President), Stacie Lauer (Treasurer), Crystal Shelley (Secretary)
   4. Nomination committee of three members needed by March to interview and endorse candidates
   5. Ideally, voice vote in May with all positions running unopposed
5. Parents advised to check BCPS One to assure students have turned in all assignments by end of this week
6. Upcoming events
   1. Wizard of Oz ticket sale on Thursday for cast and crew (Jan 14, 5:00 – 5:30)
   2. Ticket sale school wide next week
   3. Wizard of Oz Assembly (Jan 28)
   4. PJ & Spirit Day (Jan 22)
   5. Wizard of Oz performance (Jan 29, 7:00)
   6. Wizard of Oz performance (Jan 30, 3:00)
   7. Lego Robotics Club with Mr. Landel (Feb 2 – March 22)
7. Safe Routes to School
   1. Assemble team with principal, families, students, PTA rep, transportation rep, community association members (INAC and Academy Heights), county reps, police reps
   2. Baltimore County Pedestrian Bike Plan contains planned improvements with “official” language; to contact Charlie Murphy, bike advocate
   3. Mapping (electronic versions are ideal) and data collection
      1. Parent and student travel study
      2. 5th Grade Safeties possibly included; to ask Ms. Giesler
   4. Physical and Educational Recommendations (I.e. Walk or Bike to School Day/International Days, Hootie News announcements, Safety City Visit)
   5. Potential recommendations: Ramps, crosswalks, traffic calming, Ingleside stream cleanup (Patapsco Area Greenway Council), walking path improvements, school zone/cross walk signage
   6. Requires 20% non-federal match
8. SW Boundary Committee Update
   1. Westowne reps supported map with highest utilization
   2. Committee chose map with lowest percent of students affected, leaving some overcrowded schools and underutilized new buildings
   3. Westowne maintains current boundaries
   4. Committee makes recommendation to Board of Ed on Feb 2
