Safe Routes to Schools Survey
The Westowne PTA is currently in the process of applying for a federal Safe Routes to Schools grant in order to secure funds for improving the pedestrian and biking infrastructure in our neighborhoods. Families, please take 5 minutes to complete an anonymous parent survey that will help us with the grant proposal.
This is a great opportunity for our area to finally have connected sidewalks, appropriate school zone signage, and crosswalks that are safer for everyone. The survey was also distributed in paper format through your children's folders. Please fill out the online survey OR the paper survey; we only need one per family.
Walk & Bike to School Day
Celebrate Earth Day by walking or biking to school next Friday, April 22nd. Walkers and bikers can enter for a chance to win a prize. See the flyers in your children's folders for more details.
Stream Clean Up
Continue your Earth Day celebrations by beautifying our neighborhood and waterways at Herbert Run Stream on Saturday, April 23 from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Thanks to Patapsco Heritage Greenway and the Ingleside Neighborhood Association for partnering with the PTA to organize this event. Pre-registration online is encouraged but not required. Meet up is at the intersection of Lodge Road and Longview Drive. Come wearing boots and gloves.
All trash collected will go toward the Clean Green 15 environmental grant competition!
GTCAC Listening Post
Thanks to Westowne parent, Sarah Fondelier, for attending the Citizens Advisory Committee for Gifted and Talented Education (GTCAC) meeting last week. The purpose of this meeting was to share recent experiences with BCPS Advanced Academics/GT programs and to gather input to focus priorities for advocacy for 2016/17 school year.

Clean Green 15 Challenge
The Clean Green 15 Challenge cleanup initiative has been extended through the end of April! If Westowne wins, the funds will be used to make our new schoolyard green and welcoming. All it takes is a trash bag, 15 minutes at a time, and completing the log for all of your cleanup efforts.
Help cleanup Catonsville by taking a walk down your block and then joining your PTA for the stream clean up! And help us earn a grant by logging your efforts.
