Sprout Restaurant Night
Come out tonight to Sprout Natural Choice, at 706 Frederick Road, from 4:00 - 8:00. Bring your flyer so Sprout can contribute to the PTA. And hang around for music by Blues musician and Catonsville resident, Ed Kaitz! It should be a fun evening full of smoothies, healthy food, and music.
Please print this Sprout flyer available at the top of this post to bring to today's event.

Think Globally, Learn Locally
Save the date for Thursday evening, March 19th at 6:00, for our Multicultural Literature Night. To top off an evening full of books, crafts, and learning about various cultures, Indian dancer duo Nritya will join us for a performance. We hope you all can come out and enjoy cultures from around the world and in our own backyard.
Would you like to help make this big event happen? We still have space for tables in the Family Culture Fair, especially if you would like to share Middle Eastern, Asian, or Spanish-speaking country experiences with us. We also need extra hands to run the story and craft sessions in the classrooms. Please send us an email.
Used Books
If you still have children's books you no longer need, we can use a handful for Book Fair. We want to offer a selection of books likely to appeal to students who cannot bring in funds. So please send gently used books into school and drop them in the "well" in the lobby, right in front of the "It's easy being green" bulletin board. Please put them in paper bags or boxes, and please no magazines, baby books, cook books, work books, etc. We only need kindergarten through 5th grade books. Thank you!
February PTA Meeting Recap
To keep you in the loop regardless of whether you are free on Tuesday evenings, we share the notes from the monthly business meetings. Check out our blog for general business as well as 5th Grade Committee updates.
PTA Expenses
In addition to running fun and educational events for students and their families, Westowne's PTA strives to provide direct support to the school. Recent expenses include:
- Agendas, folders, and "Owlstanding" student awards: $1216.46 (in addition to Target and Giant funds)
- Field trip subsidies of $4 per student: $296 for 1st grade
- Teacher reimbursements of $50 for classroom costs
Grant Opportunity
The Catonsville Women's Giving Circle is an organization that provides grants to support local charities and organizations. Westowne could benefit from this financial support, just as Catonsville High and Arbutus Middle did last year. If you'd like to help develop a compelling idea and complete the paperwork to request a grant, we could use your assistance. Send us an email for more details.
Market Day
Market Day orders are due on Monday, February 23. Online or phone orders may be placed by Wednesday, February 25, using account number 8132. Pickup is scheduled for Wednesday, March 4th, from 6:00 - 7:00.

New Building
The plan is moving forward! According to sources at BCPS, as well as Mrs. Patrick, the groundbreaking and commencement of major construction for Westowne's new building should begin this spring. The back playground should remain open throughout construction. Westowne's administration will be in touch with our community about any necessary changes to the use of the grounds, such as parking or moving of the small playground.
