Safe Routes to School
The PTA and the Ingleside Neighborhood Association are working together to apply for a Safe Routes to School grant. This is a federally funded program that increases walkability and bikeability to schools. It involves capital improvement programs and education outreach. Westowne families can be involved in a variety of ways.
Step One: Teach your child about pedestrian, bicycle and traffic safety.
Step Two: Make time to walk or bike to school whenever possible.
Step Three: Get organized and start a Walking School Bus.
Step Four: Participate in our Walk & Bike to School Days (TBD).

Parents and guardians (sorry, no extended family) have a chance to win a prize, too, by turning in their tickets with their name, their student’s name, and the homeroom teacher’s name. Tickets will be collected in homerooms on Monday and Tuesday only.

Green Valentines
Green Thursday is February 11th. And on Friday, February 12th, participate in Westowne's monthly green initiative. Wear pink or red--and show the earth some love by making Valentines using scrap paper and recyclable materials.
Check out all of Westowne's Green Club news on the school's green blog.
Clean Green 15 Challenge
Dr. Dance and County Executive Kamenetz have announced the Clean Green 15 Challenge cleanup initiative for the 3rd year in a row. If Westowne wins, the funds will be used to make our new schoolyard green and welcoming. All it takes is a trash bag, 15 minutes at a time, and completing the log for all of your cleanup efforts--now through the end of March.
Sundays are the unofficial Westowne litter cleanup days. Get a group together or just take a walk down your block. Help cleanup Catonsville! And help us earn a grant by logging your efforts.
