PTA News
Thank You
The PTA board is so grateful to the Westowne community! Time and again, we ask for your support and help. And time and again, you step up and show up. No contribution goes unnoticed. We appreciate you all and are so happy to work with you making Westowne great together.
Think Globally, Learn Locally: A Multicultural Literature Night
Save the date for Thursday evening, March 19th! Help us celebrate Westowne's diversity by sharing your cultural connections with us during our multicultural literature night. There are three ways in which you can be involved:
Host a Family Table
Are you from another country? Have you lived in or visited faraway places? Do you have a distinct ethnic or cultural heritage? Share your story with us by hosting a family table during our multicultural literature night. Family tables can display crafts, games, flags, packaged foods (unfortunately no homemade food), maps, clothing, pictures, books, music and more. Help us explore the world by knowing more about each other.
If you can host a family table, please email us with the following information:
* Parent/Guardian's and Student's Names
* Homeroom Teacher
* Contact Info
* Country/Culture
* Items for your table
Volunteer in the Classrooms
Like previous literature nights, we will also have stories and craft activities in the classrooms. We are hoping to have 10-12 classrooms staffed by volunteers (teachers and parents). You can be a lead volunteer: pick a story and craft with an international or multicultural theme. Too much responsibility for you? We also need classroom helpers. Email us if you want to lead or assist in the classroom.
Volunteer to be a Worker Bee
There will be other opportunities to help set-up, clean-up, staff Book Fair and everything else in between. Check out our Volunteer Spot to be one of the first to sign up to staff Book Fair.
Spring Spree - Craft & Vendor Fair
Calling all Westowne crafters and vendors. On Saturday, April 18, Westowne PTA will host a craft and vendor fair. Contact us for registration information. And tell your friends! We have space for 35 tables.
Restaurant Night
Grab a meal at Grilled Cheese & Co. any Thursday in January. Visit just today or visit weekly. Support a local restaurant and your PTA. The more business we bring in, the larger the contribution--as much as 25%! Bring your flyer or just mention Westowne PTA.
After School Clubs
Thank you for all the interest in the clubs! Chess Club began this week. Lego Robotics will begin Monday, February 2nd and Wednesday, February 4th. With twice as many registrations than we could accommodate, we reached out to parents and found a volunteer to run a second class. A couple important notes:
- Registration is now closed.
- Participants will receive a confirmation email or phone call prior to the start date. Please do not assume your child has a spot or that we received your registration. We can facilitate your children getting to the class and back safely into your care only if they are on our class roster.
- Pickup for after school clubs is promptly at 4:35 in the lobby.
Market Day
Market Day offers a variety of prepared foods you can order to save yourself a trip to the grocery store. This month, their frozen cookie dough is buy-three get-one free. Frequent buyers also qualify for free items like a set of storage bowls.
Send order forms in by Monday, January 26th, or place a phone or online order by Wednesday, January 28th. Our account number is 8132. Pickup is Wednesday, February 4th from 6:00 - 7:00.
Teacher Reimbursement
Good news, Westowne teachers! We are now able to offer you reimbursements for purchases of educational materials up to $50. Please fill out a PTA disbursement form, include the original receipts, and drop it all off in the PTA box in the front office.
This program is funded through a direct-donation campaign. Parents were asked to donate $10 per grade of their child. We were also able to build this fund through contributions to the end of year giving campaign. Thanks to the generosity of the Westowne family, we are better able to subsidize your efforts in the classroom.
Please keep in touch whenever we can support you: on Facebook, by email, through membership, and at the monthly PTA meetings on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00 in the library.
January PTA Meeting Recap
For those of you who appreciate the details, here is the recap from last week's PTA meeting. Thank you to all who made it! We want to keep everyone in the loop regardless of your schedules, so here are the notes.
School News
Blue Jeans - Green School
The Green Thursday activity for January will be collecting gently used blue jeans in all sizes. The blue jeans drive will run from January 22nd - February 6th. Jeans will be donated to homeless shelters in our area. This collection is sponsored by www.dosomething.org.
As usual, the Green Team will have an exciting contest to keep everyone motivated. Keep your eyes open for the graph that will be in the hallway by Mrs. Ingle’s classroom to see how your child’s class is doing. The winning class will win an ice cream party, so be certain to turn in donations to your child's teacher.
