Book Fair
The PTA sponsored Scholastic Book Fair began yesterday and runs through tomorrow. Every student gets a shopping trip this week. We also run the fair during Literature Night tomorrow.
Many thanks to Book Fair Chair, Melody Higgins, and to all of the volunteers.
Prefer to shop from home? The Westowne Book Fair is online, too, now through March 24th. Orders will ship for free to the school and then be sent home with your children.
High Five Orioles Game
Westowne's going to Camden Yards on Sunday, April 10th, at 1:35 on the Orioles Kids' Opening Day. Tickets are $15 and support the PTA's 5th Grade Committee. Children 14 and under may win an O's t-shirt and will get to run the bases after the game.

To keep you in the loop regardless of whether you are free on Tuesday evenings, we share the notes from the monthly business meetings. This month, we had guests from the middle school PTAs. They shared information for families of 5th graders, including open PTA board positions at Arbutus and Catonsville Middle Schools. Check out our blog for the March meeting overview for more details on this topic and more.
Box Tops Raffle
We just submitted another $250 worth of Box Tops for Education. Thank you to all the families who participate in the clipping and collecting.
We will be doing something a little different for our next collection sheet. We want you to design your own! Take some time this month to get creative with displaying your Box Tops on a sheet of paper. Please remember to only use tape or glue to stick down the Box Tops and be sure to sort out any expired Box Tops before you submit your sheet. Also please do not put more than 50 Box Tops on a sheet and do not write on the Box Tops themselves. Don't forget to put your name and your teacher's name on the sheet. Every student who submits their own original Box Tops collection sheet will be entered in a raffle to win a Crayola art kit. Submit your original creation by Monday, April 11th to be eligible for the raffle.
Pajama Day - with Sports Jerseys
Students and teachers may wear their pajamas to school on Thursday, March 24th. And this month, participants can chose to wear sports jerseys or team colors, too.
Everyone can get in on the fun. Those who chose to may send in a monetary donation to support entertaining and educational events like assemblies and Field Day. The class with the most donations wins an end of year pizza party.

Earth Hour
Westowne students and staff will celebrate Earth Hour 2016 tomorrow, March 18th from 2:30-3:30. As done in the past, the school will turn off all non-essential lights for the hour to help conserve energy. Students and teachers will use natural light to brighten their classrooms, or if the weather cooperates, teachers can take classes outside for a lesson. The official Earth Hour is on Saturday, March 19th from 8:30-9:30 PM. We are encouraging families across the community to participate along with millions of others around the world!
