PTA News
PTA Meeting
Please join us next Tuesday, March 8th, at 7:00 in the school library for the monthly business meeting. PTSA representatives from both Catonsville and Arbutus Middle Schools will be attending to share information with 5th Grade families about what to expect next school year.
Book Fair
The PTA sponsored Scholastic Book Fair runs March 16th - 18th. Every student will get a shopping trip during a school day that week. We also run the fair during Literature Night so that parents and kids can shop for themselves and for their classroom libraries. See Volunteer Spot to sign up to help set up and run the book fair.
Many thanks to Westowne parent, Melody Higgins, for chairing this event!
Literature Night
Think globally, learn locally and celebrate our diversity from both near and far. Please mark your calendars for our annual multicultural literature night on Friday, March 18th, from 6:00 - 9:00. Literature Night will feature a performance by Skher Brown and the Dancing Warriors, who will share Capoeira Angola with us. Learn about this unique martial art and dance form, with ties to cultures from both South America and Africa.
We need many hands to help make this event a success. Please sign up online to help with the following tasks:
- Pizza & Concessions (5th grade parents) – Help set up and sell concessions. Proceeds benefit the 5th Grade Committee.
- Stories & Crafts – Help out in the classrooms with stories and crafts for the parents and kids. This is a great opportunity for middle school students to earn volunteer hours while experiencing Literature Night as alumni.
- Membership & Spirit Wear – Help the PTA sell memberships and spirit wear.
- Set up & Clean up
Many thanks to Westowne parent, Crystal Shelley, for chairing this event!

Orioles Night
Save the date! Westowne's Orioles Night will be Sunday, April 10th, at 1:35 on Kids' Opening Day. Tickets are $15, support the PTA's 5th Grade Committee, and will go on sale soon. Children 14 and under may win an O's t-shirt and will get to run the bases after the game.
Panera Restaurant Night
Join us for the next restaurant night on Monday, March 7th. Dine in or carry out. Even pick up bagels for the next morning. Ten percent of all the evening's purchases will be donated to our PTA (no flyers or mention of the PTA necessary) to help fund Literature Night and Field Day.
Read Across America Week
Westowne has been celebrating Literacy Spirit Week. Celebrate books, Dr. Seuss's birthday, and school spirit the rest of this week.
- Today: Wear green for The Lorax.
- Tomorrow: Cozy up with a good book in your pajamas. (Please note tomorrow is not a PTA sponsored Pajama Day. Save your donation for Thursday, March 24th.)
Clean Green 15 Challenge
Dr. Dance and County Executive Kamenetz have announced the Clean Green 15 Challenge cleanup initiative for the 3rd year in a row. If Westowne wins, the funds will be used to make our new schoolyard green and welcoming. All it takes is a trash bag, 15 minutes at a time, and completing the log for all of your cleanup efforts--now through the end of March.
Sundays are Westowne's community cleanup days. Get a group together or just take a walk down your block. Help cleanup Catonsville! And help us earn a grant by logging your efforts.
Giant Math Night
Join Westowne at Giant of Catonsville on Tuesday, March 8th from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. All grades are welcome to participate in a math scavenger hunt.
School Closings
The BCPS Calendar is available online. Remember these important dates this month:
