Teacher Appreciation Week
Thanks to everyone who made Teacher Appreciation Week a success.
Thanks to Panera Bread for donating bagels and pastries for a staff breakfast. Thanks to everyone who donated gift cards. We were able to give gifts to all teachers, paraprofessionals, and assistants! And thanks to Westowne parents Adele Snow, Dianna Bell, and Katie Riesner--who helped assure the raffle made everyone feel as appreciated as they are.
We would like to welcome Westowne PTA's July 2016-18 executive board:
Justine Stull, President
Sarah Fondelier, Vice President
Crystal Shelley, Secretary
Stacie Lauer, Treasurer
Thank you so much for volunteering your time, creativity and passion to the students of Westowne. As a community, we look forward to supporting you. Go Westowne PTA!
Messages from Outgoing Board
Dear Westowne families and staff, Thank you so much for the great privilege and honor of serving you as PTA president these past two years. I am so thankful that I was able to work with you and your children on various events and programs. Your support, encouragement and even constructive criticism have helped make this PTA a well-oiled machine. Our PTA will continue to thrive with your involvement and communication. Always feel free to reach out, speak up and get involved.
- China Williams, President
As my time on the PTA board comes to a close I want to express my gratitude to all who enrich our community. All the events we organize would be nothing without the support and participation of our families. Our PTA is here to be a voice for our school and to champion the efforts of our community. Your help is always welcome and appreciated. I am confident that our incoming board members will continue to lead with transparency and a commitment to the community.
- Jessica Brown, Vice President
Care Package for Mr. Baker
Our head custodian, Mr. Baker, is recovering from surgery. The evening custodial crew has asked us for donations for a care package for him. He likes Western movies and well wishes from students. Send in items to the PTA box.
Safe Routes to School Survey Results
Thank you for participating in the Safe Routes to School survey. Attached is a report on the survey results. A few interesting tid-bits include:
* 109 families responded to the survey. Kindergarten had the highest response rate (24% of total responders).
* 60% of the survey respondents live a mile or less from the school but only 31% walk or bike to school.
* The top four reasons why parents indicated that they didn't walk/bike to school were safety of intersections/crossings, speed and amount of traffic, and sidewalks/pathways.
This survey will be very helpful in lobbying for county support of our proposal to make physical improvements for walkers and bikers. Thanks to Sarah Fondelier for compiling the results. It was a mammoth task, and she did it quickly and quietly.
Field Day
Westowne's Field Day, including a full day of activies, Wacky Water Games, snow cones, and more are coming! All students get to participate in this traditional event on Friday, June 3rd (raindate on Monday, June 6th). Many teachers get in on the fun, too. Details to come. In the meantime, mark your calendars; family members are welcome to come watch.
Even better, please sign up to help by emailing the PTA and Field Day Chair, Westowne parent, Jesse Florida.

Thanks to so many families for collecting Box Tops for Westowne. We just received a check for $542.70. Please continue clipping Box Tops and turning them in. The class that turns in the most by May 27th will win an end of year party.
