Last week, Westowne was awarded a $2000 grant as a Clean Green 15 first place winner. Great work everyone and congratulations! Get a head start on the next competition by cleaning up your block and logging your work. The Clean Green 15 competition now runs all year, so we have many opportunities to participate and win again.

Field Day
Westowne's Field Day, including a full day of activities, Wacky Water Games, snow cones, and more are coming! All students get to participate in this traditional event on Friday, June 3rd (rain date on Monday, June 6th). Many teachers get in on the fun, too. Mark your calendars; family members are welcome to come to watch and volunteer.

Care Package for Mr. Baker
Our head custodian, Mr. Baker, is recovering from surgery. The evening custodial crew has asked us for donations for a care package for him. He likes Western movies and well wishes from students. Send in items to the PTA box.
Pajama & Beach Day
For the last time this year, students and teachers may wear their pajamas to school on Friday, May 27th. Participants can chose to dress in beachwear, too. Please wear appropriate clothing including shoes, shirts, and shorts.
Everyone can get in on the fun. Families may make an optional donation to support the PTA and compete to win an end of year class pizza party. Front running classes include:

Thanks to the 5th Grade Committee and graduating class for the gorgeous watercolor of our current building! Thanks to Archival Arts Inc. for the matting and framing. The painting will be hung in the new school.

Screen Free Day
Save a piece of Westowne's history for your home garden.
On Wednesday, May 25th, the Green Club will host a grounds cleaning from 4:00 until 5:00 PM. Bring gloves and any gardening tools you have. Students who are not current Green Club members will only be allowed to stay if a parent/guardian is with them. Designated bulbs and perennials that cannot be used in the new building's landscaping will be available for a donation to the PTA.
Additionally, a Peace A Pizza Discount Night will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 that evening. A coupon for 20% off your eat-in or carry-out order will be sent home that day.

On Thursday, May 26th, wear green and bring a reusable water bottle to school. Take care of yourself and the earth by participating in Westowne's single use water bottle ban.
Pillowcases for Patients
Through last year's “Pillowcases for Patients” initiative, Westowne donated over 200 pillowcases for pediatric patients at The Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. During the month of May, we will again collect new, colorful, child-friendly pillowcases, as well as child-friendly band aids for the Kids Helping Hopkins program.
Please drop new pillowcases or bandages in the box in the lobby labeled "Kids Helping Hopkins." Please contact Mrs. Ritzes with questions.

Westowne's annual Volunteer Tea is Wednesday, June 8th, 9:45 - 10:45 AM. All school volunteers are welcome to attend. Please RSVP by June 1st using the flyers sent home in your child's folder or with a note to your homeroom teacher including your student's name and your name/s.
