PTA News
The PTA has a Facebook group where you can expect frequent reminders about Westowne happenings. You can also be part of the conversation by sharing ideas and asking questions. We'd love to have you join us.
Holiday Shoppe
It's the most wonderful time of the year. Send us your gently used toys, gifts and knick knacks so that we can stock the shelves with low-cost gifts for our students to purchase for their families. Be a part of this beloved tradition. We also need volunteers to help sort, clean, set up and staff the event, so mark your calendars: Holiday Shoppe runs December 8th to December 11th. We will also be open to parent shoppers from 4:15 - 5:15 on Thursday. More details to come.
Are you crafty? Would you be willing to make small gifts that would be sold at Holiday Shoppe? Hand-knitted hats and scarves, jewelry, anything Ravens, Dad gifts -- your skills to turn ordinary objects into works of art and love are needed to make Holiday Shoppe a success. Contact us with questions or ideas.
Safeway & eScrip
The contribution from your shopping in September was $123.33! If you haven't signed up yet, register your card to contribute funds from in-store purchases paid for with any method other than a credit card. And while you're at it, take a look at the eScrip online mall. Securely register your credit and debit cards, sign in to the mall portal before shopping online, and your purchases will support Westowne. Also use your registered cards to pay when dining with your family at participating restarants; earn even more for the PTA when you complete a restaurant review.
After School Clubs
A volunteer is needed to organize the after-school clubs like Chess, LEGO Robotics, and Computer Coding. Teachers are already lined up, but we need someone to coordinate the times, run registration, and develop class rosters. We can walk you through the process if you can do the planning. Drop us a line with questions or to volunteer.
Special Guest Speaker
Join us for the December PTA meeting featuring a special guest speaker. Neuro-psychologist Dr. Kirk Griffith of Neurobehavioral Associates. Dr. Griffith will discuss how the organizing features of the brain (called "executive functions") work and how to foster these skills in elementary-aged students at home and in the classroom.
Tuesday, December 9
6:30 - 7.30: Guest Speaker Dr. Griffith
7:30 - 8:15: PTA Meeting
Labels for Education
Thanks to your labels, two easels are on their way to Mrs. Oster's and Ms. Gutin's classrooms. We also ordered sidewalk chalk and sentence strips for the teachers. Keep sending in your Labels for Education UPCs and caps for products such as Dannon, Pepperidge Farm, Post, and Prego. The labels are submitted by our coordinator, Jen Nyland, and turned into valuable classroom supplies.
Financial Update
The school has received $1752 from the Giant program. These funds will pay for the agendas and folders all students received at the start of the school year. The school will also receive a check from the Target REDcard program that will cover the remainder for a total of $1984 in school support. Thanks Westowne parents for shopping at participating stores that earn our school money.
Also thanks to everyone who came out for restaurant night at Peace a Pizza. We enjoyed meeting up with classmates while raising $180.15.

We have one more Market Day sale before the new year, so place your holiday and family gathering order now. School News
Join the Green School Team
Today is Green Thursday. Help the school's recycling and environmental efforts by joining the teacher-led Green School Committee. While this program gets started, volunteers are needed to help the student Green Ambassadors sort lunch recyclables. Lunchtime volunteers are needed any day from 11:10 - 1:40.
Volunteer Training
Lunchroom, classroom and field trip volunteers must complete training each year. BCPS offers an online course to make the process easier and faster for many parents. This helpful guide will get you started with the safeSCHOOLS Training. Once completed, turn your certificate in to Ms. Dixon.
Conference Day
Today, November 13th, is Preschool and PreK Conference Day so there is no preschool or PreK today. Tomorrow, Friday, November 14th is Conference Day for the rest of the school. There are no classes on Friday. If you did not yet schedule a conference time with your child's teacher, contact him or her to set up an alternative date.
Support Art
Support creativity at Westowne by turning in cardboard tubes for a 5th grade art project. In addition to those supplies, Mrs. Albert could use a weekly volunteer to help with project preparations. Contact her directly if you'd like to help.
