Pajama Day - with Crazy Hair Tomorrow
Students and teachers may wear their pajamas to school tomorrow. And this month, participants may chose to wear crazy hair, too. Everyone can get in on the fun. Those who chose to may send in a monetary donation to support entertaining and educational events like Fall Fest, Literature Night, and Field Day. The class with the most donations wins an end of year pizza party.
Top classes so far:
- Ms. Musacchio $165.16
- Ms. Witz $136.30
- Ms. Rotolo $105
Boundary Committee
The Southwest Area Boundary Committee had its public information session last night. Information and the meeting videos may be found online. If you find the BCPS/Cropper GIS maps difficult to view, try this series of maps Westowne parent Matt McKnight has created.
At this stage in the process, four maps are up for public input via an online survey.
- Maps 1 (previously referred to as B) and 2 (E) are our current boundaries with the loss of Planning Block 466 (Arkla Court) and opening at about 85% of the new building's 650 student capacity.
- Options 3 (I) and 4 (K) keep Westowne's existing boundaries with the addition of Planning Block 447 (Dunmore), currently districted for Catonsville, and opening at about 93% capacity.
- Westowne PTA and our Boundary Committee members support Map 3 for keeping our existing and diverse student population, for wisely utilizing our new building’s extra space, and for the most equitable outcome for neighboring schools.
- Please complete the online survey now. It is only available through Monday, November 30th at noon. It is extremely important for Westowne to participate. Online link: http://bcps.org/construction/southwest/
PTA Meeting Recap
To keep you in the loop regardless of whether you are free on Tuesday evenings, we share the notes from the monthly business meetings. Check out our blog for the November meeting overview.
BoxTops
Westowne was recently credited with $580.30 from our BoxTops for Education submitted just since the start of the school year. Thank you all for contributing!
Did you know you can find BoxTops on many of the brands you use to make Thanksgiving dinner, from potatoes to crescent rolls? Remember to clip those BoxTops and turn them in to school. They really add up! Thanksgiving is also a great time to collect extra BoxTops from family and friends as you gather for the holiday weekend.
In between clipping, please enter the BoxTops sweepstakes for a chance to win 10,000 BoxTops and 400 reams of paper for our school.
Holiday Shoppe Donations Needed
Our beloved Holiday Shoppe is coming December 8th - 10th. We need donated items that students can buy as low-cost gifts for their families.
Consider donating the following: used toys, coffee mugs, re-gifted gifts, neckties, dad gift s (always in short supply), spa products, and other gently used gift items cluttering your basement. Are you crafty? Turn your artistic skills into donated Holiday Shoppe gifts and we’ll sing your praises. Please, no glassware ; it doesn't survive the bus trip home.
Donations can be put in the “well” in front of the bulletin board in the lobby. Thanks for sending in donations; keep them coming!
Holiday Shoppe Volunteers Needed
Holiday Shoppe is our most successful fundraiser, and our students love it. It is also one of our most labor intensive efforts. We'll need many hands to setup and run the shop. Please sign up to help. We know you will find it a rewarding, enjoyable experience!
Fitness Fowls Run
Get in the spirit this holiday season. Join Westowne's Fitness Fowls at the Jingle Bell Run/Walk again this year on Saturday, December 5th. Tie bells to your shoes, dress in a festive costume, and raise funds to help cure arthritis. Register online.
