Catonsville Tree Ornaments
The Catonsville firehouse tree will be decorated the Sunday after Thanksgiving with our abstract take on Santa Claus ornaments. With the help of their gracious teachers, Westowne students get to make ornaments for that community tree. Our students also dedicated Christmas cards and well wishes to Emily, a local girl who is battling an illness. She will receive their cards and a gift of ornaments at the ceremony.
Thanks to Lara, Rita, Marisa, Debra, Katie, and Noel for their priceless support planning and organizing the supplies into kits for each class. It wouldn't have happened without your help!
Jingle Bell Run
Join the Running Club on Saturday, December 6th for the Jingle Bell Run/Walk, a family oriented, festive 5k around Centennial Park. Sign up for the Westowne Fitness Fowls team; use our discount code "jingle25" by November 26th to save on the registration fee. Get some exercise, show your school spirit, and celebrate the holiday season adorned in costumes and bells. Last year, Westowne won for having the most group participants. Join the fun this year with your whole family!
Holiday Shoppe
It's the most wonderful time of the year: Holiday Shoppe runs December 8th to December 11th. Students will learn what day they get to shop in early December, and gifts are affordably priced so all children can participate. In addition to the student sale, we will be open to parent shoppers from 4:15 - 5:15 on Thursday. Be part of this beloved tradition by signing up now to help. Also help us stock the shelves by sending your gently used toys, gifts, and knick knacks for our students to purchase for their families.
Are you willing to make small gifts that could be sold at Holiday Shoppe? Hand-knitted hats and scarves, jewelry, anything Ravens, Dad gifts -- your skills to turn ordinary objects into works of art are needed to make Holiday Shoppe a success. Contact us with questions or ideas.
Special Guest Speaker
Join us for the December PTA meeting featuring a special guest speaker: neuropsychologist Dr. Kirk Griffith of Neurobehavioral Associates. Dr. Griffith will discuss how the organizing features of the brain (called "executive functions") work and how to foster these skills in elementary-aged students at home and in the classroom.
Tuesday, December 9th
6:30 - 7.30: Guest Speaker Dr. Griffith
7:30 - 8:15: PTA Meeting

Mitten Tree
Spread holiday cheer by buying gifts for Westowne families in need. Stop by the school lobby to chose an item or two from the Mitten Tree. Bring the wrapped items back to school with the mitten label so that school staff can assure the families receive the gifts. All groups, troops, and individuals are invited to participate.

Help the school's recycling and environmental efforts by joining the teacher-led Green School Committee. While this program gets started, volunteers are needed to help the student Green Ambassadors sort lunch recyclables. Lunchtime volunteers are needed any day from 11:10 - 1:40.
