Schwan's Cares - Grocery Delivery
Support the 5th Grade Committee while filling holes in your pantry. Schwan's offers over 350 grocery items to choose from that you are probably already purchasing for your families. Choose your delivery date and time, and they deliver it right to your door.
Grocery purchases contribute 20% and gift certificates contribute 40%. Anyone in a delivery area can participate, including both new and existing costumers. Please share the campaign with friends and family and on social media to help make this fundraiser a success. Thank you!

Boundary Committee
The Southwest Area Boundary Committee had its third meeting last night. Information and the meeting videos may be found online. Several new draft maps were presented and critiqued by the committee. Use this website or this email address to provide feedback directly to BCPS about the proposed changes.
In order for parents and community members to provide feedback to Westowne's Boundary Committee representatives (community member Chris Burk, parent Kecia Johnson, Ms. Musacchio, and Principal Palmer), we have created a devoted email address: westowneboundary@gmail.com. Please remember these kind folks are working hard for our community.
The next Boundary Committee meeting will be held Wednesday, October 28th at 6:00 at Catonsville High School. Only committee representatives may participate at this meeting, but community members should definitely attend to observe and demonstrate stakeholder interest.
Upcoming Assembly
Thanks to your financial support and the coordination of Westowne parent Wendy Stevens, students will be treated to an educational and entertaining assembly during school next week.
Friday morning, October 23rd
Tim Hall - Comedy Magician
The PTA, in collaboration with the school, is excited to offer more ways for you to keep up with all the news from Westowne. We have just launched a public PTA page you can "like" for all the news. Expect announcements from us an average of once a day. We'll continue to moderate a community forum for questions and conversation. Westowne also has a new and improved school page you can "like" for information directly from the source.
Light the Night
Light the Night is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's fundraising and awareness walk. Join 4th grader Braydon and his mom, Kristal on Saturday, November 14th. The walk starts at Camden Yards at 4:30 PM.
Westowne is eager for Braydon to come back to school when he's well enough! In the meantime, show your support by walking with his team or donating to the LLS.
School News
Words to the Wise
Check out the October Words to the Wise newsletter from Mr. Palmer and the faculty. In this issue, you'll find information about the happenings at school, including Math Homework Helpers, drill procedures, Westowne's social media outlets, and much more.
Art to Remember
Once again this year, art teacher Mrs. Albert, with help from PTA parent volunteers, has brought Art to Remember to Westowne's 1st through 5th grade. Use your child's personalized order code to purchase a variety of gift items featuring their original artwork. Proceeds benefit art education at our school. Please place your paper orders for collectibles and holiday gifts, like mugs, mousepads, and matted prints by Monday, October 19th. Even easier, place your order online.
Some order forms had to be distributed prior to turning in students' projects to the company. Your order forms may have a generic project on the cover. The items ordered will feature your child's project. We just didn't want to push the delivery date too far forward. Thank you.
Volunteer Opportunity
Anyone who has completed the training and turned in their paperwork is welcome to arrange times with their children's teachers to volunteer. Volunteers are also welcome to lend extra support during the lunch, especially from 11:30-12:30. Come when you can, help open juice boxes, hand out sporks, and encourage owl-standing behavior in the lunch line.
Green Initiative
Starting Monday, October 19th classes will be collecting items to be recycled in Westowne's state-of-the-art recycling center. Please send in these items:
- juice pouches
- writing instruments - pens and markers (not wooden pencils)
- ink cartridges
- dental products - floss containers, toothbrushes, and toothpaste tubes
Battle of the Books
Students in 4th or 5th grade who like to read, pay attention to detail, want to show what they know in a competition format, and can make a six month commitment are invited to an information meeting next week. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend.
Tuesday, October 20th, 4:00 - 4:45 in the school library
School Closed Tomorrow
Here's your friendly reminder. Schools are closed for students tomorrow, Friday, October 16th.
