Fall Festival
Fall Fest is around the corner on Saturday, October 25th from 3:00 - 6:00. Here's what to expect:
Games & activities: $5 wrist bands get your kids access to all this fun stuff --new games borrowed from Catonsville Assembly of God, Fall Fest Salon (colored hair spray, face painting, tattoos), Hoop Love hula hoops, Spin Art machine, crafts (bookmarks and face masks), and a live music performance by Sahffi Lynne
Used book drive & sale: Love to read? Pass it on. Prior to Fall Fest, donate your gently used, outgrown books to your child's teacher and earn "Book Bucks." For more information and extra book donation slips, see our website. Donated books will be sold at Fall Fest ($1 per book or use your Book Bucks) to share the love of reading with the school community. Unsold books will be donated to the teachers' classroom libraries and to literacy programs.
Basket raffle: Raffle tickets are $1 or 6 for $5. Bring a canned good for the Maryland Food Bank for a free raffle ticket. You can also pitch in by putting together items for the basket raffle. Get creative with any theme you can think of--like spaghetti night, favorite games or characters, pet pampering, or arts and crafts--and email Tracy Horch to let her know what you're preparing and ask raffle questions.
Silent auction: Support the PTA while doing some early gift shopping. Auction items include Cheesecake Factory gift certificates, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra tickets, Christmas collectibles from Forget-Me-Not Factory in Ellicott City, services and goods donated by Westowne parents, and more.
Teachers' pumpkin decorating contest: Vote on your favorite decorated pumpkin showcasing the artistic talents of our Westowne teachers. The pumpkins will be raffled off to the students who voted.
Teacher pie-in-the-face: Help the school raise funds for purchasing technology (digital projectors) by buying raffle tickets for the privilege of throwing a pie at one of our beloved teachers. The willing victim will be announced at Fall Fest. Tickets will be sold during lunchtime on October 23rd and 24th and at Fall Fest.
Paper shredding: 3:00 - 5:00 in the teachers' parking lot. Securely dispose of your documents for a $10 donation and help an alum earn his Eagle badge and purchase materials to build a bike rack for Westowne,
Volunteer opportunities: Get to know other Westowne families by volunteering for this awesome event. Sign up on Volunteer Spot and email us with questions.
- Canopy tents: bring your canopies to the school to set up
- Ticket table: sell wristbands for the games
- Fall Fest 'Salon': work with middle-school volunteers as they spray colored hair spray and apply fake tattoos.
- Spin Art station: operate the bike-powered spin machine that turns ordinary painted pictures into amazing art.
- Concessions: Sell popcorn and pizza to hungry festival goers
- Clean up crew: pack up all the fun.
We look forward to seeing you and your families at our Fall Festival!
Winter Clothing Drive
We are collecting winter outerwear for Westowne students in need. We need gently used coats, gloves, and hats for PreK - 5th grade. Drop them off at the school office with a note specifying that they are donations for the "Winter clothing drive." Thank you for helping keep students warm this winter!
Treasurer
We have a new treasurer, Kimberly Evans, approved by the Board of Directors on October 14th. With the change of board members, we need three volunteers to review account activity and financial records from July 1 to September 30, 2014. Please let us know if you're up for this task.
Art Supplies Needed
Mrs. Albert, the art teacher, has requested paper tubes. The 5th grade is going to be making funky furniture a la Tom Miller. They need about 300 tubes, in addition to shoe boxes and newspaper. Donations can be dropped off in the office.
Market Day
Dessert Bonus Days: the more desserts purchased, the more our school earns. Pomegranate Blueberry or Candy Cane Pie, perhaps? Place your October Market Day order by Monday, October 20th. Our account number is 8132 for online orders. Pickup is scheduled for Wednesday, October 29th from 6:00 - 7:00.
Want something sooner? We have frozen Lemon Cooler, Cranberry Orange Oatmeal, and Coconut Pecan cookie dough leftover from last month's sale. For $15 each, we'll get the order right to you.
ADHD Blog
In honor of ADHD Awareness Month, Westowne parent Wendy Stevens shares all of the resources she collected as she advocated for her child with ADHD. Here is the first post in this three part guest series.
