Fall Festival
Fall Fest is this Saturday, October 25th from 3:00 - 6:00. Festivities include games, activities, live entertainment, and raffle prizes. Wrist bands are $5; raffle tickets are $1 or 6 for $5.
We also also have a used book sale, a silent auction, and paper shredding for additional donations.
Still up for pitching in? Bring canned goods to exchange for a free raffle ticket to support families in need and the Maryland Food Bank. Bring gently used coats, gloves, and hats for PreK - 5th grade to help keep Westowne students warm this winter. Or bring yourself: we also need a few more hands to sell tickets and concessions, plus an art-loving volunteer who will run the bicycle-powered spin art machine. Sign up online or show up at 2:00 on Saturday to fill last minute slots.
We make Westowne--and the Fall Festival!--great together. We look forward to spending the afternoon with you and your families.
Pie in the Face
Whoooo would like the opportunity to pie a teacher in the face?
Tickets are $1 each and will be sold during lunch on Thursday, October 23rd and Friday, October 24th, as well as during Fall Festival. These funds will support technology needs for Westowne's teachers. At the end of the festival, one lucky student will get to toss a pie in the face of the teacher with the most votes--Ms. Rotolo, Mr. Landel, Mrs. Ingle, Ms. Bill, Ms. Woo, Mr. McCusker, or Ms. Getsinger. It's up to you whoooo gets it!
ADHD Blog
In honor of ADHD Awareness Month, Westowne parent Wendy Stevens shares all of the resources she collected as she advocated for her child with ADHD. In her second post, Wendy shares her strategies for getting help both inside and outside of the classroom.
PTA Meeting Recap
For those of you who had other commitments last week, we posted a meeting recap on our blog so you can stay informed, too. Email us at any time with suggestions or questions.
Market Day Pickup
On Wednesday, October 29th from 6:00 - 7:00, be sure to pickup your orders so they go home with the customers instead of the PTA volunteers. Thank you!
5th Grade Bake Sale
The PTA's 5th Grade Committee works on special events to make sure our oldest students have a memorable year. On Election Day, November 4th from 7:00 AM - noon, the committee will host a bake sale. Bring individually wrapped, labeled homemade goods--marked with "nuts" if they include them--to school on Monday, November 3rd or drop them off at the start of the sale. And on your way to the polls, stop by to pick up something fresh and delicious baked by your friends and neighbors.
sweetFrog Restaurant Night
Thanks to such a great turn out, and our serious fondness for frozen yogurt, we raised $193.80. Thank you! These funds will help pay for Eric Energy's assembly for students on Wednesday, November 5th.
Box Tops Sweepstakes
Box Tops offers opportunities to win cash for Westowne. Enter daily for a chance to win the Monster Madness Sweepstakes or Mini Halloween Sweepstakes from Larabar.
So far, the top three classrooms for Box Top submissions are Ms. McIntosh, Mrs. Cvengros, and Mrs. Mannion. And we have collected over $350 worth of Box Tops!
Please remember that expired Box Tops and those stapled to collection sheets cannot be turned in. Please use glue or tape only. If you have extra Box Tops that won’t fit in the spaces on collection sheets or bonus Box Tops please send them in a zip-top bag or envelope.
Treasurer
We have a new treasurer, Kimberly Evans, approved by the Board of Directors on October 14th. With the change of board members, we need three volunteers to review account activity and financial records from July 1 to September 30, 2014. Please let us know if you're up for this task. It should take just an hour or two. We'll bribe you with drinks and dessert.
Pajama Day & Movie Night
With all the other fun stuff going on, we've moved Pajama Day to Friday, November 7th. Send your kids to school that day in their pajamas, and bring them back later that day for movie night--no need to change! More details to come.
