sweetFrog Restaurant Night Today
Join Westowne friends and neighbors for self-serve frozen yogurt at the Catonsville sweetFrog today. Twenty percent of Westowne's purchases will be donated to our PTA. Bring the flyer you received in your children's folders or just mention Westowne at the register. Invite family and friends!
Afterschool Clubs
Thanks to Westowne parent Melissa Pound for offering an afterschool Music Makers class for kindergarten through second grade students. The Music Makers club is now full. If you sent in a registration after the class was filled, it will be returned to you through your child's folder, and your child's name will be put on a wait list.
Keep an eye out for information about an upcoming Intro to Lego Robotics class for 2nd - 5th grade students.
Teacher Support
Thanks to our community's generous support, the PTA will reimburse teachers for up to $75 for educational materials and classroom supplies this year. Teachers, just turn in receipts for purchases attached to the PTA disbursement form. The PTA mailbox can be found in the school lobby.
Parents are also encouraged to check with their teachers periodically to find out what classroom supplies they may need. Feel free to share the need in the PTA's Facebook group so other parents can help, too.
Speaking of which, here are some of the recent requests:
- Mrs. Cvengros needs shoe laces for her 1st grade class.
- Ms. Gutin would like a small CD player for her pre-k classroom.
Fall Festival
Mark your calendar for Fall Fest on Saturday, October 24th from 3:00 - 6:00. It will be a family-friendly afternoon full of games, pie-in-a-teacher's-face, entertainment, a raffle, a silent auction, concessions benefiting the PTA's 5th Grade Committee, and more!
Want to help? Pick something big or something small. It's all needed and appreciated.
- We need clean two litter soda bottles. Drop them off on the PTA mailbox in the school lobby.
- Let us borrow your cornhole game boards.
- You know the million little toys that came from birthday parties that are collecting dust in your kids' bedrooms? Donate nearly new items so we can recycle them as game prizes.
- Grab your paint brushes, hand tools, and woodworking skills. We're rolling our sleeves up on Sunday, September 20th and building games that will be used for years to come. Let us know if you can help.

Back to School Night
The 3rd to 5th grade Back to School Night was postponed. The new date is to be determined. Expect a forthcoming Connect Ed message with this information.
Drama Club
New to Westowne this year, Mrs. Ingle and Mr. Willig are starting a drama club for 3rd - 5th graders. Check out their website for more information, including a link to sign up for an audition on September 15th or 16th. Students interested in backstage positions are also needed.
Thanks to the support of our community, the PTA can provide financial support for this event. Westowne is looking forward to a musical The Wizard of Oz in January!
Volunteer Training Online
Westowne welcomes parents' and caregivers' help in the classrooms, chaperoning field trips, or volunteering for events. All volunteers need to complete an application and training. BCPS offers an online format to make the process easier and faster for many people. Once complete, turn in the documents in the school office.
Southwest Boundary Committee
The first of six Southwest Boundary Committee Meetings is next Wednesday evening, September 13th, 6:00 - 7:30 in the Catonsville High School cafeteria. This meeting is not an opportunity for public comment, but community members may observe the proceedings.
