Common Core Blog Post
What are the pros and cons of having a Common Core? Check out the third installment of Westowne parent and educator Kimberly Feldman's guest blog.
Panera Restaurant Night
Join Westowne friends for dinner this coming Monday, September 15th. Dine in or carry out. Even pick up bagels for the next morning. Ten percent of all the evening's purchases will be donated to our PTA (no flyers or mention of the PTA necessary) to help fund events like Teacher Appreciation Week and Literature Night.
Save the Date
Pajama Day
Every last full Friday of the month starting September 26th
All students (and some teachers!) can wear their PJs to school just for fun and can chose to bring a donation to fund educational events like assemblies. The class with the most donations will get a pizza party at the end of the school year.
PTA Meeting
Westowne library
Every second Tuesday of the month starting October 14th at 7:00
Join us for this year's first full meeting to learn more about what the PTA plans to do for our students, teachers, and families this year. If you'd like to sign up for the PTA, ask questions, or meet the incoming board, please join us at 6:45.
For more important dates, check out the PTA calendar.
Fall Festival
Fall Festival is Saturday, October 25th, from 3:00 - 6:00. It's an entertaining family event with highlights including games, hula hoops, music, crafts, and more. New additions this year include a Used Book Sale and Silent Auction! Volunteers are needed for the event. Please let us know if you'd like to get in on running all of the fun.
Book Sale: Save your used books for Westowne. More details to follow as the Fall Festival team prepares to accept and store your donations.
Silent Auction: New merchandise and services generously donated by area businesses will be auctioned off. Do early holiday shopping, treat yourself or loved ones, and help the school at the same time. Auction sales are 100% profit for the PTA. An auction list will be made available soon for advance planning. Contact us now if you'd like to donate goods or services.
Giant School Rewards
Giant A+ School Rewards registration starts September 15th. Register yourself at giantfood.com/aplus. Westowne's School Rewards number is 01581. This program provides important funds for PTA sponsored events, so we thank you for taking the time to register your card!
Thank you to the families who have returned the registration sheets or provided their Giant Card numbers with their PTA membership form! If you turned in either form with only your name and phone number, we unfortunately cannot register you. We must have a Giant Card number. If you do not know your number, please call the card hotline at 1-877-366-2668 and select option #2.
PTA Membership
With 142 current members, we're nearly 75% of the way to our goal for this year. Thank you to everyone who has already joined. Membership is one important step in the ongoing process of making Westowne great together. Join now.
Teachers’ Educational Supplies Fund
Our goal is to raise $2250 so that all 45 of Westowne’s teachers can be given a $50 reimbursement for the purchase of educational materials and supplies. So far this year, you have generously donated nearly $700. We have a long way to go before we can provide the financial teacher support we believe is necessary. You can make donations at any PTA sponsored event, by sending it into school in your child's folder, and on our website using PayPal.
PTA Budget
Thank you to everyone who came to Back to School Night and learned about the PTA goals for this year and budget. With most of the votes accounted for, the budget has tentatively been approved. We will be discussing strategy and spending reports at the October 14th PTA meeting.
Holiday Shoppe Donations
Send us your gently used toys, knick knacks, and "Dad" gifts for the Holiday Shoppe. The kids love this event, and it is one of our biggest fundraisers. Bring donations to the front office; the PTA will do the heavy lifting from there.
And a special thank you to Katie McKnight for taking on the oh-so-important job as lead coordinator for this December's Holiday Shoppe!
