FUNding Friday - Maryland Pride
The class with the most donations will get a class party at the end of the school year! Thanks for your support, Westowne families.
Movie Night
Plan to join us on Friday, October 6th for a Pizza and Movie Night. See Sing (PG), a silly musical about a talent competition held by a struggling theater in order to boost ticket sales. Admission is free. Bring blankets to picnic in the cafeteria. We will have pizza, drinks, and snacks for sale. Doors open at 6:00, and the movie starts around 6:30.
Auction & Raffle Donations Needed
Our annual Fall Festival is Saturday, October 14th from 3:00 - 6:00. Please support this event with items for the Basket Raffle and Silent Auction.
Basket Raffle: We encourage families and groups of teachers and school staff to collaborate to create baskets. Families can sponsor entire baskets on their own, too. Basket themes can be anything family or child-friendly (please, no alcohol or gift certificates for alcohol). Suggestions include Harry Potter, Pampered Pooch, Minecraft, Home Movie Night, Spaghetti Night, Tea & Cookies, Baking with Kids, Science Fun, Pampered Fingers & Toes, Creative Art, etc.
We would also like to include breakfast or lunch with faculty and staff members for the students.
The Westowne Elementary Community Forum on Facebook is a great way to connect with other parents. If you have signed up for the school directory, you may also connect via email. Of course, word of mouth works, too.
Silent Auction: Fall Fest also provides an excellent opportunity to promote your business. Companies may make a donation--and share their catalogs or business cards at the event. We would like to feature services provided by Westowne parents and friends, too, ranging from massages to house cleaning. Donations are tax deductible.
All donations will need to be turned in to Westowne no later than Monday, October 9th to ensure we get them organized and ready! Items can be delivered to the Westowne office. Please mark the items as “Fall Fest” donations so they are routed appropriately. Thank you for helping to make this year a success!
Please email any questions you may have to us.
Fall Festival Volunteers Needed
Help us make this year's Fall Festival amazing by signing up to help. Moms, dads, grandparents, faculty, and staff, we'd love you on the Fall Fest team.
Middle schoolers, we love having you back to run our Fall Fest, too. Start by letting your school volunteer coordinator know you want to help. Middle school volunteers should also send an email to the PTA to let us know we can count on you.

Reminders from Nurse Martin
Preventing and controlling the spread of infectious disease among students and staff is an important function of the school nurse. Although prevalent in the school age population, the spread of infections in schools can be minimized through immunizations and the use of appropriate preventive and control measures.
Parents are encouraged to keep their children home if visible signs or symptoms of a communicable disease are present, including:
- Fever - students should be fever free, without giving any fever reducing medication (I.e. Tylenol or Motrin) for 24 hours before returning to school
- Vomiting - students should stay home if they have more than one episode of vomiting or any vomiting associated with fever or diarrhea; students should be symptom free for 24 hours before returning to school
- Diarrhea - students should be symptom free for 24 hours before returning to school
School photos are being taken on Wednesday, October 4th. Please complete the order form to send to school that day or order photos online now using the Picture Day ID on your flyer.
Recycling Center
Westowne is a proud Green School, so we collect recyclable materials that aren't accepted by our county recycling system. This trash gets turned into treasures through the various programs, including Terracycle. The recycling center is located in the stairwell of the second floor green pod, along with the Lost and Found.
Please bring the following items to school when volunteering or attending a meeting:
- batteries
- gift cards
- crayons
- plastic bags
- dental floss containers, toothbrushes, and toothpaste tubes and packaging $
- ink and toner cartridges $
- hair, skin, and cosmetic product packaging $
- nylon tights and pantyhose
