Westowne Fall Into ReadingJoin the school for an informational session focusing upon foundational reading skills for your kindergarten, first or second grade student. There are three workshop in the fall.
Attendance at all three workshops is not required. TUESDAY, Sept 24, 5pm - 6pm This session will focus upon building students' phonemic awareness skills. Materials for additional practice at home will be provided. TUESDAY, Oct 29, 5pm - 6pm This session will focus upon developing your student's phonics skills and sight word recognition. Materials for additional practice will be provided. |
Westowne Schoolwide HousesThe school-wide house system is a fun way to promote team-building, community, and positive behavior. The administration hopes to encourage student to have a positive attitude toward teachers and rules, have better academic performance and feel better about themselves.
At the monthly house meetings, students will work together in various competitions while wearing their house color. House members work together to earn points through activities which should increase connectedness and school attendance. Battle of the BooksBattle of the Book is an intermediate reading program at Westowne that is designed to encourage students to read a variety of book throughout the year. The program is open to 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders.
The Battle of the Books competition will take place on a date TBD. Students will be working in teams in order to answer a variety of questions associated with chosen books. All competitions will occur during school hours, however meetings will be either before or during school hours. See schedule below.
